Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv was born on 11th Nissan 5670 (April 10, 1910) and passed away on 28th Tammuz 5772 (July 18, 2012). He was a Torah scholar, highly diligent, and regarded as the leading halachic authority of his generation, earning the title “Maran” (Our Master). Throughout his life, he devoted himself to Torah study and for a certain period served as a judge in the rabbinical court. Rabbi Elyashiv was renowned for his dedication, and until his final years, he would sleep only three hours a day, from 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM. The rest of his day (aside from prayers and meals) was dedicated to study.
