Rabbi Shemaryahu Yosef Chaim Kanievsky (15th of Tevet, 5688; January 8, 1928 – 15th of Adar II, 5782; March 18, 2022) was a prominent Haredi-Lithuanian rabbi and the author of numerous books on various Torah subjects.

The eldest son of Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky (“The Steipler”), Rabbi Kanievsky was renowned even beyond the Haredi community. Many considered him the greatest Torah scholar of the generation and sought his blessings and advice.
