Rabbi Aharon Yehuda Leib Shteinman was born on the 14th of Cheshvan, 5674 (November 13, 1913) and passed away on the 24th of Kislev, 5778 (December 12, 2017). He was the head of a yeshiva, the spiritual leader of the majority faction in the Lithuanian Haredi community, and the chairman of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel HaTorah.

From the 1960s, he headed the Ponevezh Kollel. In the 1970s, he led the “Gaon Yaakov” Yeshiva, and towards the end of the century, he founded the “Orchos Torah” Yeshiva. Until the early 21st century, he also served as the head of the Ponevezh Yeshiva for young students.
